Our Pastor

Welcome Reverend Chandler Willis

                         Our Pastor........

The Reverend Chandler (Chan) Willis joined First Presbyterian Church-Lake Charles June 13, 2011.  Chan and his wife, Barrie, are Baton Rouge natives.  Chan's undergraduate degree is from Louisiana State University-Baton Rouge and his MDiv is from Columbia Seminary in Decatur, GA.  Both Chan and Barrie are life-long Presbyterians, having met one another in tenth grade at First Presbyterian-Baton Rouge!

"My wife and I are very excited about this new ministry opportunity," said Chan.  "FPC has a lot going for it, including a tremendous physical plant, outstanding musical leadership, and a rich history of mission outreach.  Most importantly, though, this is a welcoming congregation with leaders who are actively seeking God's will for the church's future.  They recognize the Biblical truth that "the people perish for a lack of vision."
Together, exercising the numerous gifts the people of this church possess, we look forward to discerning that vision that will breathe new life into this faithful body of believers."

Chan was asked to share some favorite readings or passages from God's Word.  He acknowledged this was a difficult task given that "All Scripture is God-breathed and useful" ...so that we "may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16)

In consideration of the opportunities ahead of us, some particular verses from Hebrews came to mind for Chan:

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.  Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of god.  Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart." (12:1-3)

Chan adds, "As this 'great cloud of witnesses' seeks to 'run with perseverance the race set before us,' may we keep our 'eyes on the prize' - - a joy-filled relationship with the 'author and perfecter of our faith,' Jesus Christ.  Through the Father's love, and the Spirit's power, may we 'throw off everything that hinders' us in fully living the Christian life.  In following the example of our Savior, we will not 'grow weary and lose heart."

Chan and Barrie look forward with great anticipation to sharing in the joy of this journey with the brothers and sisters of First Presbyterian Church.
